Question: Hello Doctor, my wife is 5 months pregnant and currently suffering with mild melasma and itching on the stomach and we are advised not to scratch due to scars. Could you please suggest medication for the same?

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Melasma is quite common in pregnancy.
I suggest her to use a broad spectrum sunscreen. Reapply every 2-3 hours during the day. At night she may apply Azaleic acid 10% cream e.g Aziderm 10% cream.
Itching on her stomach may be also related to her pregnancy and stretching of abdominal skin. I suggest her to use a soothing lotion e.g calamine lotion, 2-3 times a day. She may take tab. chlorpheniramine 4 mg (Tab. cpm), twice or thrice daily for a few days. It is safe in pregnancy.
