Hello Dr I Am Writing This Query Regarding My Mother.

I am writing this query regarding my mother. She is 64 years old. She is suffering from a pain starting from her leg (below the waist portion ) till her knees since last 4 years. We have consulted orthropaedic doctor, who after perfoming several x rays etc concluded that it is nothing major, resulted from some past injury and is a case of spondylitis. He gave some exercises an asked us to do Rheumatoid Factor Test.
To our utte XXXXXXX the RA test result came out to be 600, with a negative Anti ccnp. ESR is 30.
She has no form of joint pain, redness, swallow or joint deformation.
but recently her ankle and feet is getting swollen at times. The old pain is though persisting.
The doctor has given HCQS 200 (one tablet twice ) ,which will be increased gradually along with e cod plus. He asked to report after 3 months again.
We are concerned and want to know whether this is the prescribed course of treatment? Is HCQS having any side effect? Is it a lifetime medicine? Does RA being auto immune disease affect other vital organs as well.
She has no b.p., suger, thyroid etc as of now. she suffers from fatigue though.

I think the line of treatment is perfect.
rheumatoid factor is a non specific test , can be positive in some cases related to other autoimmune conditions like connective tissue disease(CTD), hepatitis or may be positive in low titers because of age.
I would like to rule out CTD and hepatitis, by checking her ANA, ENA and hep C antibody.
In case all this is clear , she can continue medication, the medicine will be continued if it is giving her some benefit,else it can be stopped.
HCQ is perfectly safe, however it would be good to get an eye retina test before starting it- OCT. she probably does not have RA, so no vital organs will be affected.
