Question: Hello Dr. Spaho,
My mother seems to be recovering from the confusion and disorientation. However, she is now experiencing insomnia and she is very moody. Is this a typical stage after suffering from a state of confusion and disorientation as a result of hyponatremia? Her primary care physician has taken her off of the seizure medication. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Yes, it is possible for mood and sleep issues after hyponatremia and seizures.
Another possible explanation is withdrawal from antiepileptic drugs.
It is necessary for the antiepileptic drugs to be stopped gradually not cold turkey.
Sleeping pills may be used for a few days.
Hope this helps.
Greetings.

Thank you Dr. Spaho. She was taken off of the seizure medication gradually. She has been completely off the medication for a little over a week now. Is there still a chance that it may be a symptom of withdrawal? Thank you for your input. I greatly appreciate it Dr. Spaho!
Brief Answer:
It is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Withdrawal symptoms improve gradually and may take up to a few weeks to disappear. So, it is still possible that these issues may be due to withdrawal symptoms.
Hope I helped you.
