Hello Dr XXXXXXX I Am Contacting You Again After A
Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX I am contacting you again after a while.
I have unease in lower left stomach like someone touching slightly from the inside. It started 10 months back. Then I was taking 1500 mg of magnesium daily for my chronic constipation. I had excessive drinking of alcohol for few weeks and also stresses. That is when this unease in lower left stomach started.
I started with Nexium but now I am taking pepcid only 20 mg in morning and 20 mg in evening. This is working well for me.
My questions are:
1) Once in a week, I would like to have 2 beers. At that time, should I coat my stomach with pepto bismol or carafate or both ? How much dosage and how much time before drinking.
2)I feel that a extra 20 mg pepcid after having 2 beers is helpful. Is that ok.
3)Does pepcid have minimal side effects over the long term.
Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for follow up dear,
Your answers are-
1)15 to 20 minutes before drinking take 1-2 gram of sucralfate along with 40 mg Esomeprazole.
Sucralfate covers the soft gastric mucosa and would prevent irritation by alcohol.
2)Very safe medicine. Absolutely ok
3)Theoretically not Practically.I too am having PPI's daily for last 12 years.
Don't worry its really safe.
Follow ups are welcome.
Thank you.

Thank you for your prompt and clear response.
1) Sucrafate is carafate ?
2)Esomeprazole is Nexium ? I thought it works fully only after couple of days. I am regularly on pepcid only 20 mg morning 20 mg evening. Still take Nexium 40 mg only when I drink alcohol ?
3)Still take my evening 20 mg pepcid along with carafate and Nexium before drinking ?
4) You are taking PPI for 12 years. Is it Nexium?
5)No need for peptobismol if doing the above ?
Thank you as always.
