Question: Hello Drs. I have these weird headaches and they usually hurt at the back of my head. I sometimes feel dizzy when I exercise and get them once in a while. My ears hurt every time I talk on the phone or use headsets. I wear reading glasses but use them everyday, even when I am not reading. I get headaches when I am not wearing them. I also have shoulder pains and it affects my neck and gives me headaches as well. I sometimes feel like my head is going to explode.

Brief Answer:
Probably occipital neuralgia, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I  reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms seem to be related to occipital neuralgia. This type of headache is caused by a pinched nerve in the neck.It can cause pain in the ear and behind the eyes.

There are some examinations that should be done to confirm the diagnosis :
-a physical examination
-a complete blood count
-a MRI scan for more information

Meanwhile, some advice that I can give to you are :
-use anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen 400 mg three times a day
-use hot compresses at the area
-massage frequently the area

If the symptoms continue you should consult a neurologist for further evaluation and prescription treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I would recommend three days of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear.

You can take this medication as long as you will have the headache. Usually this type of headache doesn't last very long.
So, I would recommend three days of treatment.

You are welcome for any other queries in the future.
Take care dear,
