Hello. I Am 34 Years Old. I Had Two Days

Question: Hello. I am 34 years old. I had two days of minor irritation when voiding. I was working and on call so planned to go to the doctor that third day. On day 3 I woke up and had gross hematuria. This only lasted for about 3-4 hours as I increased my water intake. I also had urgency. I went to urgent care and they diagnosed me with a UTI. I started antibiotics and all symptoms went away almost immediately. I got the urine culture result today and found out it was negative. I am still asymptomatic 5 days later. Do I need to follow up with a urologist due to having that gross hematuria? I am a little concerned now that the culture came back negative. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
No, you don't
Detailed Answer:
Hi Bsobolcrna,
You do not need to see a urologist. However, since you have had macroscopic blood in your urine and pain, I suggest you see your doctor for a urinalysis for blood. An ultrasound of your kidneys would also be sensible.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I had a urinalysis as well as routine labs about a month ago and had no blood at that time with a normal creatinine. One year ago I had a bout of right upper quadrant pain which ended up being gastritis. I had an ultrasound of the kidneys at that time. Which was normal. Besides another urinalysis and ultrasound would you recommend any other follow up? Thanks again
Brief Answer:
Ultrasound of the liver
Detailed Answer:
Hi Again Bsobolcrna,
Right upper quadrant pain can be gallstone disease. I suggest the ultrasound includes a scan of your liver and gall bladder.
Best wishes.
