Question: Hello
I am 39 years of age, male.
I am generally fit with no medical issues. But I have been observing certain skin problems on my penis glans for quite some time that has become chronic. It comes and goes even though I visited a dermatologist who believes it is balanitis and suggested Ebernet M cream. It works but does not completely eliminate. The glans has these red/white marks on it. There is no itch or discharge or any issue. Often it is seen that the foreskin too gets red. I am not sure if I should just use the cream suggested for longer time. Or try some other creams.

Brief Answer:
Regarding yeast infection of glans

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

Seems like you have a yeast infection of glans and foreskin. Instead of using a steroid based antifungal cream you may use a plain topical antifungal e.g either clotrimazole 1% cream or ketoconazole 2% cream, twice daily for a week. If it is recurring I suggest you to take an oral antifungal e.g fluconazole 150mg tablet on day 1, 4 and 7 of a week. This is prescription medication and I suggest you to talk to your local practitioner for a prescription regarding the same. Also get a blood test for blood glucose level since raised blood glucose is the most common cause of recurrent yeast infection of glans and foreskin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Thanks for your advice.

I do have elevated blood sugar levels from some years now. They are usually 110-120 fasting GL levels and HBA1C is around 6.2- 6.4. Does this mean that I need work on bringing the levels down too?

Regarding recurrent yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
hi.
Yes, certainly. You should get your blood sugar under control. Perhaps that is the reason for recurrent yeast infection in your case.
Take care.
