Question: Hello,

I am 64 yrs old and a Parkinson's patient. It's 4 yrs now since it was detected. Initially (about 3.5 yrs) I was taking Ropark (1mg 1.5 1 1.5) and Pacitane (2mg 2 1 0). For the last 1 yr I have a bladder control problem, also some memory problems. Doctor said these problems are related to Pacitane and suggested to gradually stop Pacitane and added syndopa plus to the treatment (syndopa plus 125mg 1 1 1 1 - 4 nos).

Finally Pacitane was stopped and I was taking only Syndopa Plus (1 1 1 1 1 1 - 6 tabs) and Ropark (1mg 1 1 0). The day Pacitane was totally stopped, the problems got aggravated. The bladder control problem and memory problem didn't go away after two months of 'no pacitane' treatment. I tried one day the old medication with Pacitane and syndopa plus and I felt much better again (Syndopa Plus 1 1 1 1 - 4nos, Pacitane 2mg 1 1 0, Ropark 1 mg 1 1 0). The Doctor agreed to go with the old treatment for the time being. But he is suggesting to consider either apomorphine injection or DBS .

What is your opinion on taking Pacitane for a longer time?

Best regards,
doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that it is true that Pacitance causes memory loss but it does not mean it is the only cause. Individuals with parkinson disease have chances of developing memory loss and there is nothing to do with pacitane among most of these individuals. Similarly it is true that Pacitance causes bladder problems (mostly urinary retention) but it does not mean that it is only cause.

From the available description it is almost clear that pacitane is helping in these two problems rather than causing it.

Considering this fact I do not think there is any problem with use of pacitane at this stage.

I feel your doctor need to wait for longer to observe and reanalyse the case. At the same time there is need to explore other options in case there are side effects with any of these medications including pacitane.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

Thank you very much for your reply.

I want to know your opinion on 'Stem Cell Therapy". When I go through the info, I am getting the feeling that it would be available in XXXXXXX at reasonable cost in couple of years.

Thanking you once again and with best regards,

Brief Answer:
It is premature to state for or against stem cell therapy

Detailed Answer:
Dear Karat,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

It is true that stem cell therapy holds true potential for many of the non curable disorders including parkinson disease but it is too premature to make conclusions. There is research which shows potential benefit of stem cell therapy but it is scarce and not conclusive.

One of the center in XXXXXXX promising great results with stem cell therapy but it appears that there is deliberate manipulation of data to make quick money (my personal opinion).

I hope this answers you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
