Question: Hello I am a 19 year old college student. I have been experiencing problems with chest tightness, coughing up thick rubber like brown or yellow (occasionally bloody) phlegm from my chest, I coughing up and spit clear or white stringy phlegm all the time now. I’m the morning when I wake up I feel like i can’t breathe and I almost always have a coughing attack and almost vomit from coughing and heaving so much. This has been continuously going on since January and I’ve been to the doctor three or four times and they have given me anything from Fluticazone inhalers to just Ammoxicillin. One doctor took xrays of my chest and said nothing looked abnormal a few months ago. He also ran a full blood panel on me and he said all of my blood work care back good. I am scared and I just wanna know what’s wrong with me.

Brief Answer:
Get done Pulmonary Function Test.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
By your history and description, possibility of either asthma oral allergic bronchitis is more likely.
So better to get done Pulmonary Function Test (PFT).
PFT will not only diagnose asthma and bronchitis but also let you know about severity of the disease.
Please let me know if PFT is done or not.
Any CT scan done?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions so that I can guide you better about medicines and investigations..
