Question: Hello, I am a 23 year old male. I was born with a cortisone block, which caused my body to produce testosterone as if I was going through puberty. As a consequence I essentially went through puberty at the age of 4. I took HGH in an attempt to slow my bone growth and allow my body to catch up, I took this in addition to hydrocortisone. At the age of 12 I was taken off of HGH. I haven't taken it since and unfortunately my body stopped responding to hydrocortisone. I was put on dexamethasone, it gave me terrible weight gain and I stopped taking all medication altogether. I haven't taken any hormonal medication since I went to college at 19. Ever since I turned 12 my mental health has been terrible, I haven't been able to experience emotions since I stopped taking HGH, I have a severe lack of drive and for a long time I thought it was a mental illness. I've taken anti depressants and mood stabilizers but they don't work, they just make me tired. Would it be reasonable for me to ask an endocrinologist and asking to be put back on HGH or another anabolic steroid like testosterone? It seems like I've tried everything else and this is my last resort.
Brief Answer:
Visit an endocrinologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think you should visit an endocrinologist as soon as possible.
He will give you the tests to do measuring the cortisol and testosterone levels.
You may need to start hydrocortisone again.
You developed tolerance once but now you have stopped it and cam work again.
Taking corticosteroids will improve your health and depression.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Do you believe that my mental health could in any way be impacted as a result of cutting off of HGH when I was younger? I took the hydrocortisone every day from the age of 6-16. I was weened off of HGH at 12 and became depressed even while taking Hydrocortisone for following four years. Do you believe it’s possible that my depression could in any way be fixed by supplemental steroids like testosterone or human growth hormone or insulin-like growth factor? I have an appointment scheduled with an endocrinologist I just want to make sure my questions are even valid.
Brief Answer:
Feel free to ask your endocrinologist whichever questions bothering you.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Your questions are valid and you can feel free to ask your endocrinologist whichever doubts you may have.
I think stopping HGH may have contributed to your mental health and depression.
You can still improve by corticosteroids usage.
However, I don't think human growth hormone or insulin growth factor can help you at this moment.
Best regards
