Question: Brief Answer:
The possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on the 'Ask A Doctor' forum.
I can understand your concern.

By your history and description, the possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely.
So take a simple painkiller like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen.
Avoid movements causing pain.
Avoid bad posture while sitting.
Sit with proper back support.

Apply warm water pad on affected areas. Apply Diclofenac spray or Bengay cream for pain relief.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these in 5-7 days. So no need to visit the GP or any doctor at present.

If not improving after 1-2 weeks then consult the doctor and get done clinical examination and chest x-ray.

Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks

Hello, I am a 26 year old female. I woke up to a strange sensation/sharp twinge on the right side of my chest when breathing in (particularly felt when deeply breathing in). I can feel this more particularly when laying on my left side but it becomes less noticeable when laying on my back. I work 2 jobs and go to school which is all computer based so I am sedentary more than I would like to be. I was wondering if lack of movement could cause something like this to happen? Or sitting in the same contorted position for long periods of time when at the computer. I also tend to have neck/back/should pain from so much screen time, maybe this could be radiating to the chest? Any insight on this would be super helpful, I have no personal medical history of any diseases or condition. Essentially trying to see if this is something that warrants a doctor visit or not as I do not currently have a PCP.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. I do have one last question relevant to this, about two months ago I switched to Nuvaring as a birth control, this wouldn't contribute to the issue would it? I have been aware for quite some time that it is possible for birth control to cause blood clots but I have been taking variations of it for 8 years. Just making sure to rule out all possibilities, this sharp feeling on the right side when breathing is new to me and naturally prior to reaching out to you I was reading online and the idea of a bloodclot in the lung kept coming up. I'm not sure what the risk looks like from birth control causing blood clots to begin with.

Brief Answer:
Incidence of pulmonary embolism is very less.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Honestly speaking, theoretically, hormonal contraceptive pills can cause Pulmonary embolism but incidence is very very less.
So no need to worry for this.
But if these symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks despite of treatment, better to consult doctor in person and get done clinical examination and chest x ray.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease about that. I woke up this morning to find the same pain can now be felt when laying on either side and a bit on my back but still significantly less when laying on the back The sharp twinging pain isn't made worse by touching the area, just when breathing in deep and still seems to be isolated to near the sternum of the right side. Strangely enough now it seems that the twinging pain happens even without deep breaths when laying on either side. Is this still something a bengay cream would help? Is it possible to have pulled a muscle or something so easily without having done any intensive labor or work to make this happen?
