Question: Hello! I am a 33 year old female who has a two month old and am breastfeeding. At the beginning of January, I felt some band like tissue and three doctors said it’s simply fibrous tissue and no worries. I am super anxious by nature and because I’ve been touching my breasts more often due to breastfeeding, I feel like I am finding a lot more things. Then a week ago, I found above my left aerola a movable-ish round (feels almost like a pimple). I had another professional feel it and they said it’s nothing. I am so scared it’s breast cancer.

Brief Answer:
Probably the symptoms are related to milk blisters, you should not be worrie

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

Your symptoms seem to be related to a pimple on the nipple.

They are very common while breastfeeding and are completely benign.

Usually they are related to milk blisters.

They are fluid filled bumps that occur when milk gets trapped in the skin ducts.

I recommend you to nurse the child frequently to help clear up milk blisters.

I also recommend to nurse from both breasts and keep a good hygiene.

You should not be worried, they are completely normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you. They said it’s not a clogged duct. I am also worried because baby is fussier on that side which I read can also be a sign of breast cancer.

Brief Answer:
Other possible causes are all benign, you should not be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

The most common cause of pimples during breastfeeding are clogged ducts due to overproduction of the milk.

Other possible causes can be ingrown hairs around the nipple.

Another possible cause can be related to hormonal changes which cause pimples all over the body and also on the nipple.

All this causes are benign and not a matter of concern.

So, I recommend you not to worry and to enjoy your breastfeeding experience.

Take care dear,

Brief Answer:
All the diagnosis mentioned above can appear in the tissue.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

All the diagnosis that I mentioned above can appear in the tissue.

They are all benign.

For your calmness you can do an ultrasound to exclude other possible medical condition.

Ultrasound is well-suited for examining breast lumps during breastfeeding.
