Question: Hello. I am currently feeling a bit under the weather. I sneezed a couple of times, barley have a cough. Barley have any cold symptoms, Just tired. My main question concern is I've been having a dry throat for awhile now. I have constant warm water and throat suckers. Is there anything to do to break the dryness? Is it just normal? I feel a little anxious waking up with a dry mouth. Not knowing if its truly from a cold.

Brief Answer:
Dryness of mouth and throat due to cold

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor"service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Cold and allergies are most common cause of dry mouth and throat.
in addition to this, some medications like antihistamines, which are used as a treatment of cold also cause appreciable dry mouth.

Keep yourself well hydrated and take plenty of oral fluids and water.
Avoid dry foods.
Avoid caffeine, sugar and alcohol which cause relative dehydration.
Have sugarless gums.
Increase oral intake of ginger, lemon, aloe vera and resins which are known saliva stimulators.
Avoid mouth breathing.
Don't over think.Anxiety and stress actually augments the oral and throat dryness.
If you are on antihistaminic medications, that needs to be revised too.

If the complainant persists, visit your clinician.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
