Question: Hello, I am epileptic and last Tue evening I had a severe gran mal ending up on the floor almost breaking my nose and jamming one of my teeth into my lip. Since then I haven't recovered as quickly as I normally do. I'm tired, emotional, having quite a few headaches and my husband says in general just not myself. Does this sound like I could have gotten a concussion?

Brief Answer:
A concussion is possible, read below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.

I have read your query, I saw the pictures that you uploaded too.

From the pictures seems that there was a lot of blood loss from the trauma after the seizure.

This may indicate a fractured nose.

Your pupils are equal so, a moderate to severe brain injury is unlikely.

Also, since you are not recovering as usual after a seizure, a concussion is possible.

In my opinion, you should have a cranial CT scan done.

This way you can be evaluated correctly about any fractured facial bones, and even exclude any brain injury.

I think also that you should discuss with your Neurologist about seizures treatment (even to change it) in order to prevent seizures.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
