Hello, I Am Pregnant And I Have A Dry Cough
I am pregnant and I have a dry cough and my basal temperature is in the 99 .1-99.8 degrees celsius. I have morning sickness of nausea throughout the entire day that relieves only when I eat. I'm in week 11.
My concern is how would I know the difference between this and COVID-19? My husband was treated for suspected COVID-19 but his COVID tests came back negative, though everything else he tested for was also negative (flu, RSV, 42 pathogens of respiratory, normal procalcitonin). Should I be concerned for possible COVID?
COVID-19 Test can confirm

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I dont think your symptoms indicate a diagnosis of COVID-19. Seasonal change during this time of the year is also making people produce mucous, cough, some breathing difficulty, mild chest congestion and mild fever. This is more suggestive of histamine induced respiratory changes than some infection. These symptoms are expected to disappear as summer arrives.
Mild fever is usually produced due to histamine (allergy and its corelated conditions) while high fever is produced due to prostaglandins released in a viral infection.
Everyone already knows about main symptoms of coronavirus like high fever, dry cough, some mucous or runny nose, breathing difficulty and chest congestion that are much severe. Some people may also have symptoms of diarhea and vomiting. The breathing status deteriorates within days. Whether its corona or something else, can be confirmed only with the test.
Since you are pregnant, you need to exercise extra precautions. Just maintain your distance within the house. To relieve morning sickness, eat something fatty (like cookies or pastry) first thing in morning (before getting out of bed). Most times it does work. Other times you can take doxylamine under the guidance of your doctor.
If anyone in your house has respiratory symptoms, they can be isolated within the house for few weeks.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
