Question: Hello, I am taking 1.5 mg vraylar in the morning for schizoaffective disorder, 100 mg luvox in the morning for OCD, 150 mg wellbutrin xl in the morning for depression, 0.5 mg klonopin in the morning and 1 mg at night for anxiety, 150 mg trileptal in the morning and 300 mg at night for mood stabilization, and 5 mg propranolol in the morning and 10 mg at night for tachycardia. I also take a gummy multivitamin, 200 % vitamin C, 500 l-tyrosine in the afternoon, and a fruits and vegetables supplement in the morning and afternoon. I have been adding these supplements because of depression and although they help at first, the depression eventually returns. So what do you think I should do? Should I try increasing my vitamin C to a 1000 mg a day? Is that safe and will it help me with my depression long term? If not, then what do you suggest as a solution to my depression?

Brief Answer:
There is need to revise the dose of medications

Detailed Answer:
Dear Soniya,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that nutritional supplements have limited value in treatment of depression and there is definite need for review of prescription or to add psychotherapy in addition to medications.

As I can see that you are taking many medications with overlapping functions, it is time to get the second opinion about the diagnosis and medication management.

For example the effective dose of Luvox for OCD is 100-300 mg and the same dose is effective for depression. I do not see any rationale for prescription of wellbutrin when Luvox is already there. At the other end the dose of wellbutrin is at the lower end of efficacy as most patients need between 300-600 mg per day for effective treatment of depression. In my opinion eliminating wellbutrin while increasing the dose of Luvox will serve the purpose for both depression as well as OCD.

In regard to your question about the dose of vitamin C I like to make it clear that 1000mg is quite safe for a day but I am not sure whether it will help you in treatment of depression over a long time as no such conclusive data available.

I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
