Brief Answer:
Show me your PFT reports.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
First of all, no need to worry because asthma is very well controlled by medications.
Treatment of asthma is based on severity and to know the severity, PFT is must.
So please show me your PFT reports.
Another important aspect of asthma management is identification of allergen and if possible complete avoidance of it.
So get done detailed allergy testing if not done previously.
Also let me know
1. Since how long you are taking Asmanex and albuterol?
2. Are they in inhaler form or in capsule form?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thanks for following up...
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the reports you have attached.

In my opinion, you should start:
1. Formoterol and budesonide combination in the inhaler.
2. Montelukast (anti-allergic) and fexofenadine (antihistamine) combination once a day at night before going to sleep.

These would definitely help you in treating your asthma.

Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.

Wish you good health.
Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. Are you saying I have asthma, because when I visited the doctor earlier they have told me that I have mild asthma symptoms and I should not use any inhaler as that might trigger asthma.

Also are these medicines available in US, will it require any prescription. What kind of side effects can there be.

Brief Answer:
Yes, these are available in US but only on prescription.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
No, this is not true. Inhaled treatment is best for asthma.
You can check this in XXXXXXX guidelines (International guidelines for asthma diagnosis and management).
Inhaled treatment is least systemic side effects with highest local effects (on lungs).
And yes these drugs are available in USA but only on prescription.
So consult pulmonologist.
Who told you that inhalers are bad for mild asthma?
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Doctor,

Are you saying I have asthma. I was told I have mild asthma and not should not worry about it. I did get asthma attacks in one night and couldn't sleep. If I talk for a long time and do some activity I get shortness of breath and feel exhausted. Can you please explain what are these symptoms.
