Hello, I Did Get In To See A PA On

Question: Hello,
I did get in to see a PA on my right leg issue..It was cellulitus as I previously had in Nov. 2017. However this leg pain issue hasn't subsided at all. Its usually not bad at beginning of work week, but get worse by the end of the week..Doesn't come on until a half hour to hour after driving. By shifting to my left side and straightening right leg out stretching out helps temporarily. Pumping calf muscles helps a little. The pain goes from hip all the way to ankle. If I stop driving walk around a little it helps. I've had to stop loading my truck with logs several times to stretch leg out from seated position.
Also, the medication for cellulitus worked to end the infection. Just wondering what I should do? Did buy compression socks but didn't fit properly.I want to keep working if at all possible

Brief Answer:
Chronic Venous Insuffiency should be ruled out...

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concerns...

As those symptoms that you've mentioned are classically seen in case of chronic venous insufficiency (due to continuous pooling of blood to the lower extremities of the body)...Some other (less likely) possibilities could be the electrolyte imbalance (particularly Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium), nutritional deficiency and Diabetes (do check them once if not already done)...

The fact that the symptoms tend to worsen as the work week progresses further is another indication of continuous work-load affecting the preexisting pathologies...

You should get a Doppler Ultrasound scan of the venoarterial system of lower legs to look into it further...

I'd suggest getting an appointment with your PA again who can afterwards refer you to the Endovascular Surgeon who particularly deals with this (that way you can the appointment quickly also)...

Meanwhile, please do put on the compression stocking throughout the day while at work as well as driving...there are several different sizes available, if it's not fitting please return it and get a bigger one (while buying, do tell the pharmacist to measure the girth of the leg and thigh for proper fitting)...

Avoid prolonged sitting down at one place, after every few minutes, walk around for a while...Keep the leg elevated, don't sit down with the legs hanging down for a prolonged period...

-Please avoid smoking (if at all do), Drink plenty of water, fresh fruit juices throughout the day...avoid wearing very tight fitting jeans/tight belts...

All this will provide some symptomatic relief...

Let me know if I can assist you further...

Wish you a good health...

Take Care
Kind Regards
