Hello. I Had An MRI Of My Cervical Spine/neck And

Question: Hello. I had an MRI of my cervical spine/neck and it showed a 1.1cm nodule in my lower left thyroid lobe. I then had an ultrasound which shows the same nodule and another 1.6cm nodule in my lower right lobe. My father passed away from esophageal CA (inoperable) and my mother from tracheal CA. I am 59 years old with a history of multiple MRIs and CAT scans due to a rt. vertebral dissection of unknown origin.
Having FNA in 2 weeks but my gut tells me to just have my thyroid removed (whether benign or otherwise).

I sincerely appreciate any and all thoughts on my situation.

Brief Answer:
Wait for FNAC report. Thyroid profile testing also needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor service'.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

You are having 2 thyroid nodules on different lobes of thyroid. The decision regarding whether removal of thyroid gland needed or not is to be taken only after clinical correlation and after checking required investigations.

You have to investigate with FNAC report to rule out nature of lesion whether it is Benign or malignant. You also have to investigate with serum TSH, free T4 amd T3 estimation to check whether nodule is functionally active or not.

It is also necessary to look for the size of nodule with the time also. After clinical correlation and after checking all reports if needed than your doctor will advise you to undergone surgical management.

So don't straight forward look for only surgical option.
Consult nearby good surgeon for physical examination and accordingly further management.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards.
