Question: Hello, I had bronchitis, four months ago.
Recently, I have been sick, dry hacking cough, low grade fever, back ache for the last week. I have felt fatigued and have had a mild chest discomfort.
The symptoms have been slowly improving.
I have a CT scan scheduled for next week.
However, I am worried that I may have Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Is this something I should be worried about?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is very low.
So no need to worry much for IPF.
Possibility of either simple viral respiratory tract infection or viral bronchitis is more likely.
So get done CT thorax.
Please let me know if you are a smoker.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you, for your answer sir.
No, I am not a smoker. I'm 62, and exercise almost every day of the week.
Just in the past two weeks I have been concerned that I was coming down with IPF.
Aside from these symptoms I described, I have recently felt short of breath sometimes, but not always. The fever is gone, the coughing is starting to subside. I still have a feeling of general discomfort in my chest.
My CT scan is a week from Monday.
