Question: Hello, I had gallbladder removal surgery 11 days ago. A few days ago I experienced numbness, tingly and occasional pain in my right leg. I went to ER and had a D dinner test that came back elevated at 1.13mg. Had a CT chest scan with contrast and that was all clear. They want me to come back tomorrow and have a Doppler on my legs, but let me come home with Xarelto. Are my D dimer levels extremely high or not? Can levels still be high a few weeks after gallbladder surgery? Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on - Ask a Doctor - service!

I passed carefully through your concern and would explain that these D- dimmer plasma levels are not too high, especially considering the fact that you are right after surgery (which is a common cause of elevated D- Dimmer levels).

I agree with your doctor recommendation on the Doppler ultrasound in order to examine your limb blood vessels.

In the meantime, until performing the Doppler ultrasound, I would recommend continue taking Xarelto.

Hope to have been helpful to you!
