Hello, I Had Several Lab Test Done To Figure Out
THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODIES 7 H (< or = 1 IU/mL)
THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 232 H (<9 IU/mL)
TSH 1.91 (0.40-4.50 mIU/L)
T4, FREE 1.0
Is there a cause for concern with these results?
About Hashimoto thyroiditis;
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
High antibodies are suggestive for an autoimmune chronic disease called Hashimoto thyroiditis.
It means that the body produces some antibodies that destroy the thyroid gland.
When more than 80% of the gland is destroyed, the thyroid can not produce enough hormones and hypothyroidism or under active thyroid is installed. Hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH is increased over the normal ranges.
So, for the moment the thyroid gland functions normally (TSH is within the normal ranges), but you should keep checking it every 6 months as there will be a tendency to get high in the future.
Selenium supplements can help to lower the antibodies and prevent the damage of the thyroid gland.
Once the TSH will get increased, thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) should be started.
Hope the information will help.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
