Question: Hello. I have been diagnosed with a urethral stricture that will require reconstructive surgery as the prior procedure resulting in the return of the scar tissue. Accordingly, my bladder does not completely empty. My condition is complicated by prostatitis, recurring UTIs and a recent lumbar spinal surgery. My doctor says my bladder looks likes it is 95 years old! My question is...is it likely that i will have to manage incontinence forever? My urologist said the the surgery will improve and insure flow, but not likely address other factors. I’m 59 and still active.

Brief Answer:
Get the surgery done .It will improve quality of your life.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have obstructive voiding symptoms and repeated episodes of UTI due to recurrent stricture of Urethra .Urethral stricture disease is a progressive disease and left properly untreated leads to back pressure changes in kidney making their function to deteriorate gradually.
Hence I would suggest you to get reconstructive surgery done .This will make urethral passage clear and wide open and will help to improve urine flow which automatically prevent getting repeated episodes of UTI.

It will not lead to incontinence of urine after the surgery.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
