Question: Hello, I have been struggling with something here. I have had 2 lymph nodes on left supraclavical that is very little inflamed, I went to ENT doctor and he said its not concerning, he thinks its not even inflamed! Lol. Well i have heard these lymph nodes are almost all the time malignent. He put ascope up my nose and said to keep an eye on it, my question is, can i feel those nodes only on left side and not on the right? I got an ultrasound today and 1 is 3.5mm and the other 3mm. What do you think? Or can this just be the normal size that it is and never noticed i can feel them? They are not painful, but they are moveable.

Brief Answer:
The tests doesn't suggest any infection or malignancy...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query.
I have gone through the query and the reports thoroughly and understood your problem.
1. Any lymph-nodes to be considered abnormal should be above 10mm in size. In your situation, it is around 3mm which is absolutely normal.
2. Commonly during an episode of infection or inflammation, the lymph-node surrounding that area or the lymph-node draining the respective segment of the body gets enlarged. The blood report of yours shows normal WBC (white blood cell) count. Hence, no signs of infection.
3. Left supraclavicular lymph-node, also known as Virchow's node is considered significant in the malignancies of the stomach. If you are still apprehensive about the lymph-node, you can request your doctor to get a CT scan or MRI of the abdomen to rule out any malignancy of the stomach.
4. As all the blood tests are normal, except for your Vitamin D (it's on a lower side), even the lymphoma is ruled out.
5. All the tests performed until now doesn't suggest any infection or malignancy. Hence, I would suggest you wait and watch for any changes in the size of the lymph-node. Avoid frequent palpation of the lymph-node, this can traumatize the lymph-node and may become painful.
Hope this answers your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.

This looks a little high for supraclavicular what do you think?
This looks a little high for supraclavicular what do you think?
Brief Answer:
The lymph node noticed is innocuous in nature.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing back
Any enlargement of the lymph node in the region of the thoracic duct could be related to the gastrointestinal tract and it is usually noticed anywhere between the lower end of the neck adjoining the clavicle to the supra-clavicular region (the depression behind the clavicle).
Secondly, the jugular chain of lymph nodes can also be present in the lower part of the neck when there is any inflammation in the front of the neck. According to your test reports, there are no signs of any infection or malignancy. The lymph node noticed is innocuous in nature.
Hope this clarifies your doubts. Good luck

Brief Answer:
Yes, you are absolutely right...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
Yes, you are absolutely right, the location of the lymph node is in the posterior cervical region which drains the backside of the nose, throat, larynx and the skin overlying these regions. As the lymph node is not situated in the supraclavicular region the malignancy of the thoracoabdominal region is ruled out.
Secondly, the scans have shown that there are no signs of malignancy elsewhere in the head and neck region. Even the size of the lymph nodes is very small which doesn't go in favour of malignancy. Hence, be assured that its a perfectly normal lymph node.
