Question: Hello,

I have been taking Adderall for my ADHD for years now. I currently take Adderall 30mg, QD or BID.
It has worked wonders for me. However, it gives me horrible breath that i cannot seem to get rid of. No matter how much i brush or chew gum, it still always smells bad. I assume because of the dry mouth side effects of Adderall. Any advice to remedy this?

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Dryness of mouth seems to be the cause of bad breath.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using 'Ask A Doctor' service

Yes, Adderall is known to cause dryness of the mouth. This can lead to bad breath. One option which is easy is to reduce the dose if your symptoms are controlled. This should help you.

Other substances that can make this worse should be avoided as if you smoke then you should quit smoking. You should reduce coffee intake. This can make might dry.

As such, there is no specific treatment. Maintaining good hydration by taking water frequently is one option to treat this. Saliva stimulants like sugar-free gums can help. These will help to prevent dryness. Artificial saliva too is an option.

In my opinion sugar-free gums together with dose adjustment should help you.

Thanks
