Hello! I Have Had Some Weird, Periodic Pains In My

Question: Hello! I have had some weird, periodic pains in my left arm for quite some time now. It comes and goes. I have occasional jaw pain, but that ceases too. Never much chest pain; a periodic spurt of pain, that feels more like a nerve ending misfiring (I was told years ago that's what it was). I have been to the E room twice in the last year for similar symptoms and each time my blood tests came back fine, my EKG's were fine and X-Ray's were fine. I am on a blood pressure pill I take daily as well as aspirin I take twice daily. I am heavy and recently just quit smoking. My blood pressure the last few days has been an average of 135/85 and pulse around 80-85 at rest

Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor !

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be related to the heart.

I agree with your doctor on the fact that chronic degeneration of the cervical spine can lead to your symptoms.

At your age, a cardiac disorder would be exceptional.

Anyway, I would recommend performing an exercise cardiac stress test in order to be totally sure that it is not your heart.

A cervical spine MRI would help investigate for a possible bulging disc in this region which could lead to irradiating nerve pain in this region.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Thank you for the additional information!

Your symptoms are typical of a musculoskeletal pain possible bulging disc in the cervical vertebral column.

A cervical spine X ray followed by a cervical spine MRI is necessary.

You should discuss with your Doctor on the above tests.
