Question: Hello.
I have my 9.5 month old son meftal-p as he had high fever and Crocin/calpol did not work. As advised by my doctor, gave him 5 ml of meftal. The fever went down within 30 minutes and he became very active. However for the past 2-3 hours now he has become very cranky and is crying even at the slightest of movements. Is it because of bloating/stomach pain because of meftal? What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Likely a part of the illness rather than from Meftal

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service
I understand your concern

I guess he do not have any other symptoms apart from fever and this crankiness. This probably suggests a viral fever. It is common for babies to be a bit cranky/irritable during initial 48-72 hours of a viral illness. A single dose of Meftal is unlikely to cause significant bloating.

If he is otherwise active and feeding well, we need not worry. He will be alright in about 48 hours. If the crankiness persists or fever continues beyond 48-72 hours, kindly take him back to your pediatrician to evaluate for other causes like urine infection, ear infection or meningitis(these conditions can sometimes cause extreme crankiness). Till then, no need to worry. Stay relaxed.
