Question: Hello! I have recently been diagnosed with Post traumatic encephalomalacia. I had an MRI about 8 weeks ago and am still waiting to see a specialist. I have started having some numbness on the R side of my face in the temple area and also around my nose and upper lip. Should I be concerned and should I try to see someone asap. I had a bad fall about 4 years ago and am still having a lot of symptoms. I was told that I did not need an MRI on more than one occasion. I finally was able to get one, but am having trouble having things explained to me?

Brief Answer:
Please schedule an appointment over the next few days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Hope you are not in much discomfort.

Post traumatic encephalomalacia on MRI scan is a term to define scarring of brain tissue after an injury. This is a sort of permanent brain injury and is not reversible. Brain injury in the past can continue to cause symptoms like to ones you have mentioned.

It is important to know if you had any seizures episodes in recent times, if yes then you need to consult a doctor urgently.

The numbness and on right side of face needs a consultation with your doctors but you can schedule a non emergency clinic appointment over the next few days.

You might like to send me your MRI images to get a detailed explanation of the findings.

Regards,
