Question: Hello, I have the heart condition Ventricula Tachycardia and also suffer from bad environmental and chemical allergies. I am anticipating to be contacted soon to have the Covid-19 Vaccine. I expect it will either be the Pfizer or Astra Zenica vaccine. My allergies are more controlled by antihistamines and a nasal spray, however, some allergies have affected my heart especially smoke and some chemicals. I am also allergic to Penicillan and have had problems with Amiodorone. Do you think it would be safe to have either vaccine and am wondering if the Astra Zenica one would be better?

Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that Pfizer vaccine could be a better option considering all your past medical history and allergy history.

The fact that you suffer from allergies does not necessarily impose a risk of allergy from this vaccine. Anyway, the medical team which is in charge of vaccination is well prepared for every type of allergic reaction to the vaccine.

Regarding the cardiac arrhythmia, it is not a risk factor for the vaccine.

But considering the fact that Pfizer vaccine is ARN vaccine, and not a virus, I would recommend performing this type of vaccine, which I think that would be safer for you.

Hope you will find this information helpful!

Kind regards,

Thank you for your response, Doctor.

I don't think I will be offered an option at this stage to be able to choose which vaccine I can have. I understand the Astra Zeneca one is not a live Virus but has been modified. If I do get offered that vaccine without the option of the Pfizer one do you think it should be OK since it is not a live Virus even if I would get some side effects from it?

Brief Answer:
I think that even Astra Zeneca Vaccine would be a safe option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

I think that at your age (you are really young) even Astra Zeneca vaccine would be OK, even with some mild adverse effects.

So, I would encourage you to get the vaccine as it is the only way to get through this pandemic.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
