Brief Answer:
mostly chronic nephropathy of diabetes may be the issue here.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical experience, the cause of protein in the urine at high levels in a diabetic patient is usually associated with chronic nephropathy from diabetes affecting filtration, absorption properties of the urinary tubules.

* Still if you can provide all the reports of lab, ultrasound if any as an attachment in follow up conversation, I would be able to focus more precisely over the same.

Awaiting for your response.
Regards.

Yes, I agree it is chronic Nephropathy. So the question is what do I do to improve the situation? Could it be caused by one of the several medications I am on?

Brief Answer:
BP,sugar control, dietary measures, life style modifications.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the follow up.

* The most important factors for the protein loss control are

- BP control
- Blood sugar control
- Dietary measures
- Life style modifications

* Kindly provide me your list of medications apart from lisinopril and available reports
of lab particularly that of creatinine albumin ratio in blood if done in recent past.

* Also mention along with that do you have any swelling over feet, ankle, excess weight
or other systemic features along with protein loss in the urine ?

Thank you.
Take care.
