Lipid profile
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Welcome to Ask a doctor.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
Normal triglyceride levels are less than 150 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) i.e less than 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L).
Your TG falls in borderline high — 150 to 199 mg/dL (1.8 to 2.2 mmol/L).
A high level is 200 to 499 mg/dL (2.3 to 5.6 mmol).
Normal cholesterol levels desirable in adults is less than 200 and your's is quite normal.
Serum lipid profile is always done in a fasting state and there are limitations in non fasting estimation.
12 to 14 hrs fasting (except clear water) is recommended.
There are 2 main reasons for it.
Post meals TG remains elevated for several hours.
Second, all the reference values have been established on fasting blood samples.
TG and cholesterol levels depend on time of last meal, amount of fats in last meal, prolonged torniquet application (increase cholesterol),patient's upright or supine position while drawing blood, alcohol consumption, patients hydration, renal status and season of winter or summer etc.
Ethnicity and menopausal status should also be considered in clinical practice.
Hence please procure a fresh fasting lipid profile after a week and that would give a better estimate.
Your values are fair and you don't have to worry much about them.
Do dietary and life style modifications and be physically active.
After all,it's just a number.
Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.
