Question: Hello.
I'm a 69 year old male. I had a cough and cold which has cleared. But, my right shoulder aches some {tennis player} and I have pain/soreness under my shoulder blade which can be felt some in front of chest between ribs just below breast. Right side only. I've had this before...not sure if its my sleeping on my right side with my arm extended straight up while sleeping or if its more likely costrocondritis caused from the coughing. Besides Advil are there any exercises I can do?

I also have moderate degenerative cervical neck issues.
Brief Answer:
Can be a muscle pull.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain under the shoulder blade that you have can be related to mild muscle pull due to the sleeping posture or can be due to playing tennis.Violent coughing can also cause it. This is not related to cervical neck issues. Besides Advil, you can do a hot compress and apply a local analgesic gel for relief. In case the pain is persistent then you can get oral muscle relaxants prescribed from your physician.
I hope this answers your query.
