Hello, I Made Tests For Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) And

Question: Hello, I made tests for Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and it came back positive for EBV antibodies (EBV VCA LgG). I know this is normal, because the virus is very common, but the result is very high (524). What does this mean? Should I worry about? The test was negative for EBV VCA Lgm. Thank you
Brief Answer:
Sign of recent active infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir
Thank you for asking ask a doctor service.
I have gone through your query with diligence. As Igm is negative you don't have any active infection now. IgG is showing high titre which shows you had a recent infection.
In some cases it can go into chronic infection phase. In such case along with high IgG titre you will have intermittent fever, tiredness, lymphadenopathy around neck (swelling). In such case antiviral drugs like Acyclovir will be needed.
If no symptoms then nothing to worry. Take supplements of vitamin D,C and zinc to boost your immunity. Gargle daily with mouth gargle solution daily.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help.
Thanks.

Thank you Dr. I remember I had some of those symptoms last October, just for two or three days. I also had a maculopapular rash in the chest and I never had that before. I thought it was a reaction to a medicine that I was taking. Could that be EBV infection? May I expect that this number goes down in the following months? Kind regards

Just one last question: this high value of EBV antibodies could also be a symptom of another disease, more serious, like some kind of cancer or HIV? Sorry for asking this but I read it somewhere and I thought it was better to ask. Thank you and kind regards
Brief Answer:
Most likely that was EBV infection.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.
Thank you for your follow-up query.
Most likely the rash you had was due to EBV infection. Now if you don't have any symptoms then nothing to worry about. This high titre will go down. High IgG indicates the immune response that your body does already to the viral antigen. High EBV igG is not indicative of any other disease.
So there is nothing to worry.
Thanks.
