I recently had lab results done and my white blood count is low, neutrophils and high lymphocytes see attached. I havent been sick lately but always seem to pick up viruses easily. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
CBC shows low CBC & relative lymphocytosis, probably due to viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on 'Ask A Doctor' service.

The complete blood count (CBC) report shows mildly reduced white blood count (WBC).
The increase in lymphocytes is only relative and the absolute lymphocyte count is within normal range.

The absolute neutrophil count is mildly reduced.

This blood picture may be attributed to recent viral infections as you have mentioned in your history.

Viral infections usually lead to slow down of bone marrow leading to transient low blood counts, white blood cell in your case.

This effect is transient and clears away as infection clears.

If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Thanks and take care

Two years ago I went to a hematologist for the same concerns my levels never went in the normal range but got close. We discussed doing a bone marrow incision to test it but I opted out. Since its been a couple years should I go back to hematologist or are the levels mild enough not to be concerned with?

Brief Answer:
You may get a bone marrow examination if comfortable with the procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
The CBC values are almost normal and unlikely to cause any serious effect on body.
You may go for bone marrow examination if comfortable with the procedure.
Otherwise there is nothing much to worry.

Thanks and take care
