Hello! I Recently Have Been Having High Blood Pressure From
Question: Hello! I recently have been having high blood pressure from the stress of the pandemic which lead me to get some cardiac tests including an echocardiogram. The exam showed a mild heart wall muscle thickening. So far i am not taking any medication for the blood pressure nor for the heart issue. My question is, as a XXXXXXX male, I like to do poppers (isobutyl nítrate) when having sex as they relax my anus. How dangerous is to continue doing poppers, when having sex, if I’m not taking any blood pressure medication but have my muscle thickening issue?

It acts by dilating the smooth muscles of blood vessels thereby causing the blood pressure to fall.
So there is always a risk of significant drop in blood pressure which can lead to loss of consciousness. So it’s medically not advisable to use poppers for sexual pleasure.
Regarding your muscle thickness on echocardiography, it’s indirect evidence that you might have unnoticed transient high blood pressure. So it’s advisable that you should consult your primary care physician and get an ambulatory 24hr blood pressure monitoring to understand your blood pressure variations.
