Question: Hello
I somtimes am experiencing skipped hearth beats....about once or twice a day that I notice. Lately I feel a bit "funny" when it happens....not that I'm going to pass out, just strange. I've felt my pulse when it happens, and there is a definite pause followed by a stronger beat. It seems to occur at random times, usually quiet times. I can exercise without it happening. My pulse returns to normal after the skipped beat. It does seem to be happening more often lately. I had a friend who had a heart attack fairly young so decided I need to stop ignoring this. I have an appointment coming up with my doctor soon.
My father had SVT later in life and had to have ablation done.
I am pretty healthy other than IBS issues. Don't take any medications.

Brief Answer:
Possible SVT
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I understand your concern. Skipped beats and fluttering sensations in the chest may be symptoms of SVT. There are types of SVT (such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome) that are hereditary, so in your case, it is a possibility. I recommend you do an EKG as a first step to rule it out.
If the EKG is normal and SVT is ruled out, there are other possible causes for skipped beats to consider, such as anemia, dehydration, a high functioning thyroid, too much caffeine, too much alcohol, spicy foods, smoking tobacco, emotional triggers such as stress and anxiety.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
