Hello, I Took A "Motor And Sensory Neuropathy Evaluation..." Blood
Question: Hello, I took a "Motor and Sensory Neuropathy Evaluation..." blood test a few years ago, with (higher-than-normal) positives on the following:
Asialo-GM1 Antibodies, IgG/IgM;
Immunoglobulin G;
Total Protein-Electrophoresis; and
Gamma.
SPEP/IFE Interpretation Notes showed polyclonal increase in the gamma region/IgG, no monoclonal proteins seen."
However, my doctor told me that although I have neuropathy, there are no abnormalities associated with these results. I also have active symptoms (and diagnoses) of Fibromyalgia, Restless Legs Syndrome, Sciatica, Chronic Pain Syndrome, Neuropathy, along with tingling, numbness, weakness, and even itchiness in certain areas. Additionally, I have a very sensitive GI tract (going sometimes 10+ times a day) and haven't had any loose stools in 3 or 4 years.
Any and all advice is appreciated and considered, kindly. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!

Brief Answer:
Multifocal motor neuropathy to consider.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.
I have read your query and here is my advice.
Those tests results are suggestive for a condition known as multifocal motor neuropathy.
These tests results should be evaluated together with the neurological findings and electrophysiologic tests results ( conduction block ), in order to get a correct understanding of your condition.
The cause is thought to be autoimmune and the treatment consists on immunomodulatory therapy.
Discuss with your Neurologist for these issues.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Do you know if irritable bowel/deficiency symptoms are associated with multifocal motor neuropathy?
I'm sorry for all the questions Dr. Spaho, but I was also wondering - what a "polyclonal increase in the gamma region" per my lab report meant?
Can you also explain how these particular variables interact with one another, based on my lab results? :
Asialo-GM1 Antibiodies;
Immunoglobulin G;
Total Protein-Electrophoresis;
and Gamma;
I have been doing my own research off/on the past few years trying to understand my condition and would like to understand its physiological processes and perspectives.
Thank you so much for your help, I truly appreciate your expertise in this!

Brief Answer:
Explained below.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Multifocal motor neuropathy in most of the cases, affects the skeletal musculature.
Irritable bowel syndrome is not related to multifocal motor neuropathy, so, these are most likely, two separate conditions to consider in your case.
Polyclonal increase in the gamma region refers to the polyclonal gammopathy or abnormal increase of the gammaglobulins due to infection, inflammation ( as in the cases of autoimmune diseases ), etc.
Asialo-GM1 may indicate multifocal motor neuropathy, polyclonal increase in the gamma region may indicate that there is an inflammatory activity increase that may be the basis of this neuropathy.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
