Question: Hello, I very strongly feel I have covid-19 and am unable to get a test. It's like elephant is on my chest, body aches, on and off fever between 99 and 101, very exhausted. I cant see my dr because he only has his assistants tell me to call a number and answer a questions. I call the number and get no test. Nobody will give me the test. The problem is that my wife is a hospice nurse and If I infact I have it I can quorinteen her. I dont want her to get her patients sick, and she should definetly not be going to work if I have covid. I dont want to have her stay home if I dont have it because we cant have her missing work, but will keep her home if I have it. I just want to get a test to make sure I take the right steps for myself, for my family, and for her patience. I know they are holding them for people who they deem nessasary, but nobody will see me to find out. I am miserable and having a hard time. Please advise how I can get a test. I'm hoping u dont say to call a number or quarenteen her just incase . Those aren't options and I am getting nowhere with local dr's. Im a 48 year old male. Thank u for your help.

Brief Answer:
You should get self isolated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
First of all you have to calm down because stress doesn't help you.

If you think you have covid19 you have to call that emergency number and they can decide to do a test to you or not. The test is done only by state epidemiological center and not by other clinics or private hospitals because it is pandemic and not a single case can be missed .
If they don't do the test there is no other alternative where to do it. This is how the whole world is operating right now.
If you have mild fever and body pain take acetaminophen.
Keep self isolated in a room at home and avoid contact with other members of your family.
Follow the hygiene rules.
If your fever increases and a breathing difficulty starts you should call the number that your state has given in your disposal.

You wife has a high risk job of contracting covid19 being a nurse and there is increased probability that she contracts it from patients. If she goes in quarantine ( wishing not so) probably her hospital or clinic will pay her so don't be worried about it.

Hope I have answered the question.
