Hii. This pain ear after getting bup from sleep may be many reasons. I opine that you are having allergic rhinitis with eustachian tube dysfunction. The eustachian tube is the connection between ear and nose and it maintains pressure between them. When you are allergic inflammation of the eustachian tube, it fails to get opened and as a result pressure within the ear is not maintained properly. This causes pain in the ear. This is the most common cause I have found in practice. But there are other causes like inflammation of the oral cavity, back of the throat and dental problems. These problems can also present with ear pain. Don't think about tumour or cancer. Stay positive. Consult an ent surgeon and do a audiogram, impedance audiogram. By seeing these tests we can have an idea if there is any disease in the ear or not. Do a x ray sinus to check your sinuses. Do a rigid nasal endoscopy to check your nasopharynx(back of nose) and nasal cavity. Sometimes patients nasopharyngeal tumour present with unilateral pain. Get your endoscopy done and get cleared that you are having any nasopharyngeal tumour or not. You can start fluticasone spray and saline nasal spray to reduce the allergic reaction in the nose. You can start antiallergic tablet levocetrizine and steam inhalation. Review with the reports and if everything is normal then you can stay relaxed. Later if you are too much anxious about any tumour then you can do a MRI brain but it's costly. So I will advise you to wait, do the following tests and start the above medicines. Do give any type of oil in the ear as it can cause harm in the eardrum, ear canal. Please review if you have any queries.

Hii. As far I know no oil is helpful in any ear disease. Oil is very irritant and can damage ear canal causing infection and it can damage ear drum and cause hearing loss.

Also I have not had any ear infections and a doctor looked in my ear and said it looked fine and no infections, so would you still think it’s possible that it’s eustachian tube dysfunction?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Eustachian tube dysfunction may not dissolve over a long period. Sometimes it persists for short period but we have seen patients with long term eustachian tube dysfunction. But the best thing will to do a nasal endoscopy to see the back of nose and nasal cavity. Do a x ray sinus and review. Start nasal spray fluticasone and steam inhalation. Please review with reports.
