Hello, I Was Just Diagnosed With Retrocalcaneal Bursitis , Achilles

Question: Hello,
I was just diagnosed with Retrocalcaneal Bursitis, Achilles Tendinitis and a heel spur. I believe all of those things together are called Haglunds syndrome? The doctor told me to continue with all of my normal activities ( I work on my feet and do HITT training). All he did was prescribe a topical anti inflammatory, does that seem right? The topical has made no difference at all, I have been using for 3 days. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
suitable shoe-modifications advisable
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a doctor service.
I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concern. You are right that itis known as Haglund's syndrome. It is often treated conservatively by altering the heel height in shoe wear, orthosis, physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs, and local steroid injection. Surgical excision of the bony exostoses of the calcaneum is only required in resistant cases. So, I would insist you to go for suitable shoe-modifications while you continue with the anti-inflamnatory medication.

Should a period of rest be taken to help it heal? Like a week off of work or anything? I’m on my feet all day. And is it safe to continue exercising while it’s healing?
Brief Answer:
Show modification is more important
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You need not rest. You should talk to your trainer about which exercises are fine and which others to avoid.
