I was on a trip recently to New York, and had to hold in my urine, which caused a UTI. I take Keflex 500mg twice a day for 5 days, the pain is going away but I feel like my sex drive has been lowered and I can’t feel anything in my vagina. What am I able to do?

Keflex contains cephalexin which belongs to the group of antibiotic medications known as cephalosporins that is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. It can reduce sexual drive as its rare side effects. Again, it can cause pins and needles, tingling or numbness sensation in any part of body like vagina. It may cause loss of sensation in the skin too as its rare side effects.
Usually no medical treatment is for such type of rare side effects of Keflex. These rare side effects will subside over time after stop taking Keflex. So, don't be worried at all.

Thank you for joining again. Studies have shown that more than 90% of the Keflex passes through the urine within 8 hours of a single dose of Keflex.
Again, when a full antibiotic round of Keflex is completed, it can take up to 72 hours for the patient to eliminate the drug.
So, hopefully, your present drug induced complications will be started to subside after 72 hours of the last dose of Keflex and will take 7-10 days to become fully cured.

It has been 3 days since I’ve finished my Keflex treatment. I still experience numbness in the vagina as well as burning during intercourse. My primary doctor told me that this could be a fungal infection and to try using monistat?

Thank you for joining again. Keflex may cause vaginal dryness. Vaginal dryness is more prone to develop fungal infection. Symptoms of vaginal infection are burning, irritation, intense itchiness, redness, swelling, discharge of vagina. You may feel pain or burning when you pee, pain during sex and having a thick, white odourless discharge similar to cottage cheese.
Again, some vaginal fungal infection may cause numbness in the the vaginal are. Numbness of vaginal area will be improved after subsiding the vaginal fungal infection.
Monistat vaginal cream contains miconazole that will be useful for treating your vaginal fungal infection. If your vaginal numbness has been resulted from using Keflex, then it will be subsided within 4-7 days. But, if the numbness has been resulted from fungal infection, then curing the vaginal infection will relieve you from the numbness in your vagina.
