Question: Hello, I was told through one of your doctors that I may have trigger thumb. I am in a lot of pain and I can't see my primary until Monday. I know it's hard for you to predict what another doctor would say or perform But if I were to go to the ER For the pain and discomfort, do you know if they would give me a steroid shot by chance? Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Not likely to get a steroid shot.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the thumb that you have can be related to arthritis or a trigger thumb. In case you go to an ER, you are likely to get prescription pain killers. You are not likely to get a steroid shot without consulting an orthopedician. It is best to do a hot compress and apply local analgesic gel and see if it helps.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.

Thank you for responding? I have one more question. I've been researching trigger thumb. Some say I should use and 8 oval splint. I can't seem to find them at the drugstore. Do you know if the ER would carry that kind of splint, if I were to go?
