Question: Hello, I%E2%80%99m a 23 year old male and today I%E2%80%99ve felt my heart pounding in my chest. It doesn%E2%80%99t hurt and I don%E2%80%99t think it would constitute really as a discomfort, but I can feel it pounding and I%E2%80%99ve never experienced it before and there might be a little pressure but nothing serious. Also this morning after my hot shower I got a little light headed and my heart was beating faster than normal but it stopped about 10 minutes after. I am active and I work out every day and I didn%E2%80%99t notice anything out of the ordinary as I was working out, just a normal rise in heart rate after hewvy sets. The rest of the day it felt normal until tonight after my shower i started feeling it beat again and its been going for about an hour now. And also my heart rate increases even when i just stand uo and its never really done that.

Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms are suggestive of low blood pressure or orthostatic intolerance.

The hot shower can lead to cutaneous vessel dilation, thus causing a lower blood pressure values in some certain conditions like anemia, dehydration, orthostatic intolerance, etc. or in sensitive persons.

For this reason I would recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure values in the next days in sitting and in standing up position.

Some blood lab tests are necessary too:

- complete blood count for anemia
- blood electrolytes
- thyroid hormone levels.

If these symptoms are triggered by standing up position and all the above tests result normal, I would recommend performing a Head Up Tilt test in order to investigate for possible orthostatic intolerance.

You should discuss with your Doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
