Question: Hello,
I'm 59 years old. I take Lisinopril, Tamulosin, Atarvastatin and Levothyroxine. I have been taking all of them for over a year (s)
I started having a blueish color to my bottom lip about 9 months ago but most people didn't even notice it unless I said something...even doctors. Since then my lips have become extremely chapped and dry and now even inside my mouth. My tongue can get beyond dry at night if I sleep with my mouth open. This is miserable. I am constantly putting vaseline on them to help.
I've been to the ENT, the dentist, pulmonary, GP and heart doctors. They can't find anything, but say dry mouth. I know there has to be an underlying issue. I do have a stiff neck and sometimes a pinched nerve when I am working on the computer. I have also had a double disc replacement (neck) about 3 years ago...could this have something to do with it? My neck hurts when I walk long distances and when I prop up on 2 or 3 pillows. I also have a dog in the house that sheds pretty bad. Could you shed light on how I could possibly find the underlying reason...because my mouth is so dry, i fear I will start developing mouth sore and dental problems soon. Thanks in advance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I can understand your concern

I read carefully the history of your comorbidities and in my opinion neither of them is related to the dry mouth. It might be that the blood pressure is low and if you have been taking diuretics would be one cause. However I don't think this is your case.

The first thing is the colour of the tongue which might direct us to the cause. The second the autoimmune diseases are another cause that are associated with dryines of the tongue but for diagnosis some blood tests are needed such as : XXXXXXX ANA ESR,PCR.

Or if you don't take liquids enough it might be another cause. Please discuss with your doctor for the above
