Question: Hello,
I'm a 29 year old male. Recently when I was in the hospital for influenza and pneumonia, the doctors tested me for Rheumatoid Arthritis because I have a family history of it (my grandfather had it). I tested positive for Anti CCP, although weakly positive. The doctors have told me they want to watch and wait and check it again in 6 months as I have no symptoms of RA at the moment, and they tested me when I was very sick and they could have skewed the result.
Is it possible to have CCP antibodies and never develop RA?

Brief Answer:
Get retested after fully recovered from influenza and pneumonia.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think you should better get rested after you get fully recovered from influenza and pneumonia.
It has a possibility that it can be a false positive test possibly affected by your current health situation. Also not all persons that test positive CCP develop rheumatoid arthritis ,they may develop other rheumatoid diseases.
So as a conclusion you should get retested later.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello, thank you for your reply.
You say not all people with CCP develop RA, they can develop other rheumatoid diseases.
Is there any case where a person with CCP antibodies doesn't develop anything at all?
Also, when someone is ill with an infection, is it common to get false positives on tests?
Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Flu can affect the test.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Not all people that test posyfor CCP develop arthritis but the majority of them do.
Having a flu or viral infection can affect the test so it is advisable to get the rest done after getting cured. So I can advice you to repeat the rest at least 3 weeks after your flu symptoms stop.
