Question: Hello, Im a 35 year old male, otherwise healthy but have suffered from insomnia lately. I was given some Zopiclone tablets and have been taking them for about a week with the plan to take them another few nights and then discontinue. At the same time I noticed some discomfort on my penis head area which I was told to take Clotrimazole (anti fungal) for and have been for about 5 days. I read today that these two drugs have negative interactions? Is it safe and I can go ahead and continue both for the next few days or not? Thanks so much

Brief Answer:
Zopiclone has significant drug interaction with Clotrimazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
Welcome to the "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr. Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query and here is my opinion.

Zopiclone is a drug that finds widespread clinical use in short term treatment of insomnia.

You are quite right in that it has a significant drug interaction with "azole" antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole) including Clotrimazole.

Please talk to your clinician so that he can make a revised treatment regimen for you.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards
