Question: Hello, I'm a 57 year old heterosexual man. I recently was tested for STDs due to beginning a new relationship. To my shock I showed up positive for HSV-2 Igg test with a 1.25. Is there a possibility that this is a false positive? I've never had any symptoms.
The research i have conducted shows this is a low reading at 1.25. Should I get retested with the Western Blot test?

Brief Answer:
This could be a false positive result.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in "Ask a doctor".
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You should know that this could be false positive because false positive results can occur with many diagnostic tests, including STD tests. False positive HSV-2 results can happen, especially in people who are at low risk for a herpes infection and that is why usually it is not recommended in people without symptoms like you.
Furthermore, you can retest after some weeks.

Hope I have answered your query.
Feel free to ask me further.

Thank you so much Doctor. Do you suggest a different test in a few weeks? Or should I have the same test run?
