Question: Hello! I’m attaching a picture of my mouth with an area circled...as you will see, there is a white line running down that area. I can actually scrape off that white spot and it appears the next day. I recently had the first molar on that side extracted after having an abcess, as well as the wisdom tooth behind it. My dentist did a bone graft at the site of the first molar and I am going to have an implant done in a few weeks. The opposing first molar on the top is still intact. Do you know what that white line can be and is it anything worrisome? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be worried. Healing tissue. Do warm saline rinses.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,

Thanks for consulting Ask a doctor service.
This is Dr.Priyanka tiwari answering your query.

I have read your query and gone through the picture you have attached. As far as i have observed in attached picture that white line you are asking it can be healing mucosa. For soft tissue “gum” grafts, the site may appear white during the healing process, this is normal and not a sign of infection. There is nothing to be worried about it . Do warm saline rinses 2 to 3 times a day.

If any symptoms observed like any discharge or pain then consult you can consult me or your dentist for clinical examination.

Hope this will help you.
If you have further query i will be happy to help.

Hi Doctor...thank you for your answer!

Actually, I had the gum graft back in January and it was done at the site of the first molar extracted, not further back where the wisdom tooth was extracted. The white line seems to be further back from where the wisdom tooth was. Do you still believe it could be related to the graft or could it be from grinding or something else?

Brief Answer:
It can be due to friction between cheek and cusps of posterior teeth

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome

I have read your query as you have graft done few months back then this white line can be due to friction between teeth and cheek . Nothing to be worried for this if you feel sharp cusps of upper posterior teeth then consult your dentist of cusps grinding.

Hope this will help you.
If you have further query i will be happy to help.
