Question: Hello I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant I was recently in the hospital because I was having contractions and which I dilated by 1 cm. I tested positive for fetal fibronectin test. My question is can they start up again? And should I prepare for the baby’s arrival and possibly two weeks?

Brief Answer:
Discuss antenatal steroid therapy with your ObGyn

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us with your health question

Fibronectin test is a screening test for predicting the possibility of preterm birth. A positive test does not necessarily indicate that you are going to give birth in the next 1 or 2 weeks. It is just an indication that there is a higher risk for possible preterm delivery.
So it is important to be prepared for the same as well.

Antenatal corticosteroid therapy is indicated in women with gestational age more than 24 weeks experiencing contractions and a positive fetal fibronectin test. The steroid therapy will enhance lung maturity for the baby and thus minimalize complications for the baby even if born preterm.
Treatment consists of two doses of 12 mg of betamethasone given intramuscularly 24 hours apart.

Please be advised to follow up with your ObGyn to initiate steroid therapy and further monitoring at the earliest.
