Question: Hello. I’m writing in regards to my mother. She had a syncopal episode Saturday morning (4/4/20). This isn’t very uncommon for her as she normally has lower blood pressure and has had some fainting spells in the past. She usually feels them coming on with dizziness and ringing in the ears, etc. However Saturday morning she didn’t feel it coming on and my dad saw her faint/fall hard out of nowhere. We thought she broke her nose because it was (and still is) very swollen, but her X-ray at an urgent care center came back normal. They gave her 4 stitches on the bridge of her nose. She’s been complaining of intermittent headaches and thinks she may have a concussion. The urgent care did not do a concussion work up on her which I found odd considering it’s very obvious she partly fell on her face. This morning she said she woke up with a bloody nose (from the inside, not from her laceration/stitches). She said it didn’t even last for a full minute, but I’m just a little concerned as it has been 4 days since she fainted and want to be sure it’s nothing serious.

I have noted your mother's clinical details. Based on this, this does not seem to be a serious issue. The nose bleed seems to be due to a local problem.

As of now, there are no symptoms of concussion. Watch for symptoms such as worsening of headache, dizziness, vomiting, double or blurred vision, decrease in alertness, etc. If any of these symptoms develop, a brain CT scan should be done.
